New law faculty at Belvedere Institute Mullingar

Belvedere Institute Mullingar is to open a new law faculty this October offering a range of accredited law courses. The faculty is to be led by two practising local barristers – Sean Corrigan BL and Niamh Ginnell BL.

The first course to be run at the faculty is a part-time FETAC business law course aimed at business owners and managers, however the range of courses is to expand to include legal studies and other accredited law courses.

“We felt there was a demand for a law course in the Mullingar area and that Belvedere Institute is a great location to establish a faculty of law due to its facilities and FETAC accreditation,” says Sean Corrigan, who together with Niamh Ginnell will be teaching at the faculty.

The first course to be offered - business law - is aimed at business owners or managers who want to increase their knowledge of legal issues in relation to the running of their company.

“The course covers issues that are relevant to all businesses such as health and safety, employment law, and consumer law,” says Sean Corrigan.

Niamh Ginnell agrees: "You see more and more businesses becoming embroiled in litigation with customers and employees over issues that they may not have been fully aware of. It is not usually the case that organisations are being deliberately non-compliant with legislation, there just seems to be a lack of awareness among business owners and managers as to what their obligations are. This course seeks to address that shortfall in a very practical way."
