Judge warns defendant he’s getting close to jail sentance

“He’s getting close now,” Judge Olann Kelleher warned a Mullingar man who has previous public order conAvictions and risks jail if convicted again.

Paul McEntee of 66 Grange Village was on Oliver Plunkett Street in the early hours of February 27 this year when he was seen behaving in a threatening way among a group of males.

He pointed a long neck bottle at another male and was physically restrained by a friend.

As the garda dealing with the incident turned away, she heard the glass break and Mr McEntee ran from the scene.

Mr Louis Kiernan said the 21-year-old, who has five previous public order convictions, has not been in trouble in recent times.

He said there had been no violence in the incident and he is now keeping away from alcohol and is back playing hurling. He’s also looking for work.

Fining him €400 the judge warned that “he’s getting close now” to a jail sentence.
