Athlone Women’s Network to hold open day

At a worrying time of economic recession, information is vital. To help with this, Athlone Women’s Network, in conjunction with Athlone Drugs Awareness Group and Westmeath Community Development, have organised an information open day to take place on Wednesday June 30 in St Kieran’s Community Centre, Tormey Villas, Athlone.

This event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, will provide an opportunity for service providers in the Athlone area to come together in the one venue. Members of the public are invited to attend free of charge to view the stands and speak to staff members from the services in an informal setting.

Organisations represented will include FAS, Department of Social Protection, Citizens Information, Jobs Club, Athlone Community Radio, Helplink South, Dr Stevens Centre for the Unemployed, Athlone Institute of Technology, Westmeath VEC, Harmony CDP, Westmeath Community Development, and many more.

St Kieran’s Community Centre have kindly agreed to host this worthwhile event and will provide some light refreshments also.

This event is being funded by the Department of Social and Family Affairs under its funding initiative for the EU year for combating poverty and social exclusion. Athlone Women’s Network were successful in receiving funding under this initiative and have teamed up with Athlone Drugs Awareness group to organise the event.

Come and meet for a cup of tea, chat and find out what the Athlone services can do for you.

If any organisation wishes to put up a stand, or if you would like further information, please contact Linda-Jo Quinn, LCDP co-ordinator WCDL, or Helen McCaul on (090 ) 6494555.
