Assault case to go ahead in September - judge

Judge Patrick Clyne has said a case of assault causing harm may go ahead in the District Court after reading statements from those involved.

Patrick McCormack of Derryhall, Streamstown is charged with the assault on David McEntee at Murrays Pub in Mullingar on October 26, 2009.

Inspector Kieran Keyes said it will be alleged that the 24-year-old had been drinking in the pub when he got into an altercation with the victim in the toilets.

He said it will be alleged that McCormack punched his victim in the nose and then kicked and punched him on the ground.

Pictures were shown to the court of the injuries Mr McEntee sustained and the court heard he had received lacerations to his nose which was also broken and two black eyes, as well as lumps on his head.

He had to be removed by ambulance to hospital where it is understood he remained for a number of hours.

Judge Clyne adjourned the case to September 9.
