Armed robbery case sent to Circuit Court

A man who is alleged to have entered the bedroom of a single mother while armed with a large kitchen knife has had his case sent forward to the Circuit Court.

Peter Donoghue of 30 Springfield, Mullingar is charged with three offences which are alleged to have taken place on August 8 last year at The Harbour, Market Point.

Judge Patrick Clyne requested a brief summary of the case before deciding whether to appoint senior and junior counsel to the 20-year-old under the legal aid scheme. Inspector Kieran Keyes said there were two children in the house when the alleged armed robbery took place, placing the woman in great fear.

He is charged with trespass and the theft of €530, producing a knife capable of inflicting serious injury while committing an offence, and trespass with a weapon.

Ms Patricia Cronin noted that one of the offences before the court attracts a maximum of 14 years in jail on conviction and Judge Clyne granted two counsel in the case which is to appear before Mullingar Circuit Court on July 13.
