A presentation took place on Friday last of over €1,000 raised by local Montessori school children towards the Athlone flood relief effort.
Coosan’s Headstart Montessori School held a sponsored fancy dress walk for Athlone Flood Relief on March 24. The children attending Headstart, all aged between two and five years, managed to raise a massive €1,060.
Minister Michael Finneran was present with the children at Friday morning’s event to present the cheque to Richard Foy from the Irish Red Cross for Athlone Flood Relief. Both Minister Michael Finneran and Richard Foy praised the children for this great achievement.
Each year the children at Headstart take part in a fundraising event as a way of learning about social responsibility.
Proprietor of Headstart, Tracey Staunton, says “We always choose to fundraise for a cause that is of local concern and this year we chose to raise money for Athlone Flood Relief. The reason we choose Athlone Flood Relief is because it is a cause close to our hearts, as some of the children attending Headstart were either directly affected or had families affected by the severe flooding in November.”
The children all raised individual sponsorship for a fancy dress walk to Coosan church and back on March 24, for which they dressed up as their favourite fancy dress characters and followed the Alice in Wonderland hat made for the occasion especially by Tonta Street Theatre.
Headstart Montessori School is a family-run business that has been in operation for almost three years.
It is currently enrolling for September for the junior class and for the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme (free pre-school year ) for the senior class. Early booking is advisable as places are limited. Tracey advises parents that they can save up to €2,450 per child by availing of the free pre-school year.
Headstart also opens throughout the summer and runs a Montessori Summer Camp for the month of July and the first two weeks of August, where the children engage in many activities including outings, arts and crafts, music and movement, buntas outdoor activities, and much more.
