Gabriel d’Arcy announced as Midlands Chamber ambassador of the year

CEO of Bord na Mona follows in the footsteps of Michael O’Leary CEO Ryan Air and Owen Killian CEO ARYZTA

The Midlands Gateway Chamber announced Gabriel d’Arcy as their Ambassador of the Year 2010. Gabriel d’Arcy is CEO of Bord na Mona for the past two years.

Dominic Doheny, president of the Midlands Gateway Chamber said, “Bord na Mona has invested over the last 75 years in the order of €1 billion in the region and will invest €500 million over the medium term future here. This company not just a peat company, not just an energy company. It has renewed itself many times over the decades from 1934 using its core competencies of peat and peatland know-how, energy expertise, and resource management and is now on track to becoming Ireland’s leading environmentally responsible integrated utility service provider encompassing electricity, heating solutions, resource recovery, water, horticulture, and related services.”

Dominic continued “Today Bord na Móna employs 1,300 people in the midland region on a full-time basis in a variety of commercial activities with a further 400 seasonal workers joining annually to help harvest the three million tonnes of peat produced by Bord na Móna in the region on average each season.

“As well as being an excellent example of a profitable and innovative State-owned enterprise, Bord na Móna has also long demonstrated its deep commitment to the environment Here in the Midlands the company has played its part in the conservation of All Saints Bog, Clara Bog, Mongan, and Raheenmore Bog and has shown commendable leadership in the establishment of the wonderful Lough Boora Parklands which not only enhances the cultural heritage of the county, but also provides a platform for enhanced tourism activity,” Dominic stated.
