Homelessness charity to benefit from family weekend

This coming bank holiday weekend, on June 5 and 6, the Clik All-Ireland and International Sheep Shearing Championships will be held in Portlaoise Rugby Club, with over 20,000 people expected to attend.

The weekend will provide an opportunity to support Midlands Simon Community, who are one of the official charities at the event.

The competition will take place across a range of various sheep shearing events, with a host of other events planned including a wide range of trade and arts and craft stands, funfair, children’s entertainment, dog demonstrations and trials, a pet farm, and live music.

Commenting on their involvement with the event, CEO of Midlands Simon, Tony O’Riordan, said, “We are absolutely delighted to be associated with an event of this stature, and would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Portlaoise Rugby Club, and the members of the festival committee for their wonderful support by choosing Midlands Simon as an official charity.

“We very much believe that when people work together that we can overcome any obstacle, even homelessness, and it is also wonderful to see such willingness on the part of everyone involved in the festival.”
