More jobs expected at Lynn Road company

Another 10 full and part-time jobs are expected to be created on the O’Brien campus on the Lynn Road this summer if an application for a new €250,000 deli and cafe is given the green light by the council.

This follows fast on the 25 jobs created by the opening of the Rock ‘n’ Bowl entertainment centre just before Christmas, and if this month’s application goes without a hitch, its opening should happily coincide with the completion of the €12million, 514-metre link road between the Lynn Road and the back of the Clonmore Industrial Estate in August.

The firm has applied to nearly double the space at the shop and off-licence from 317sqm to 605sqm to include the deli and seating area, new toilets, offices, chillers and freezers, and three electric vehicle charge points for the accommodation of the more progressive motorist around the town.

The plan as submitted will see the removal of the jet wash service, the relocation of the existing service area and ID sign and the provision of a total of 41 parking spaces.

If all runs smoothly in the planning office, the O’Brien family can expect the go-ahead around the last week in June.

No comment was available from the family yet as it was felt inappropriate to do so until permission had been granted.

This O’Brien family has been a presence on the Lynn Road since the 1960s with its landmark Renault garage. This has expanded in the ensuing years to include a filling station, Mazda showroom, vehicle service area, shop and off-licence, 10-lane bowling alley and the childrens’ adventure centre Jungle Joes.
