A number of Westmeath students were hailed at the DARE2BDRINKAWARE film awards ceremony in The Digital Hub this week.
DARE2BDRINKAWARE is a film competition for third-level students, aimed at highlighting young people’s attitudes to alcohol. The competition is organised by the Digital Hub Development Agency (DHDA ) and sponsored by drinkaware.ie At the recent awards ceremony, Sarah Watts (22 ), from Castletown, Verona McQuaid (24 ) from Mullingar, and Jamie Keegan (20 ) and Declan Coyle (21 ), both from Athlone, were hailed for their involvement in a film entered in the 2010 DARE2BDRINKAWARE competition.
The four Westmeath natives, all of whom are students at Athlone IT, acted in the short film A Serious Mix-Up, which won the Online Public Vote category at last night’s awards ceremony. At the event, the team members had the opportunity to meet Dearbhla Walsh, the acclaimed Irish director who won an Emmy Award last year for her work on the BBC production of Little Dorrit. Ms Walsh was the guest of honour at the awards ceremony and delivered a keynote address at the event.
