Ilia Tapas & More and Weir’s Bar & Restaurant, Multyfarnham have been named among the county’s top eateries in Ireland’s most prestigious restaurant awards.

The regional winners of the Irish Restaurant Awards were announced last week, and the Westmeath winners named under categories including Best Restaurant, Best Chef, and Best Customer Service.

The popular Ilia Tapas & More restaurant came out tops in two categories, winning the Best Casual Dining award for Westmeath, with chef Westley Cassidy being named Best Chef.

The award for the county’s Best Gastro Pub went to Weirs Bar & Restaurant, Multyfarnham, a family-run pub famous for its local, seasonal menu.

The Best Restaurant award for Westmeath went to Kin Khao Thai restaurant in Athlone, while Glasson’s Wineport Lodge picked up awards in the Best Hotel Restaurant and Best Customer Service categories.

The Leinster winners of the Irish Restaurant Awards 2010, sponsored by Santa Rita and the Sunday Independent Life Magazine, took place last week in Killiney Castle, Dublin.

Nominations for the awards were made by readers of the Sunday Independent Life Magazine, members of the Restaurants Association of Ireland, and by regional judging panels. The awards were attended by 300 industry peers.

All the Westmeath and county winners from across the country will now compete for the regional and All-Ireland title, which will be announced at the Irish Restaurant Awards in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin on Wednesday June 9. See www.irishrestaurantawards.com for further information.
