Mullingar Fire Service held a charity car wash in Tesco’s carpark at the weekend in order to raise funds for Natasha Dyer.
Natasha (16 ) is a Mullingar native who needs to raise some €22,000 in order to avail of a critical operation in Germany that will save her hearing.
Fire services in both Athlone and Mullingar held car washes in their respective towns to help Natasha reach her target.
“We were asked by Jodie Keating to host a charity event for Natasha. Normally we don’t do fundraisers for individuals, but this is such a good cause, the Chief Fire Officer David Stuart gave us permission. Athlone raised €2,400 and we raised €2,800, giving us a grand total of €5,200,” explained Paul McLoughlain, Station Officer in Mullingar.
“Natasha has now raised enough money to have her operation, we are delighted to have helped. We had great help at the car wash, including members of the Niall Mellon Township charity. A lot of our family and friends also came down to help, and I would like to thank everyone for their generoisity,” he added.
Natasha is living with a genetic neurological condition Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2 ) which causes tumours to grow all over her body. As a result she will face many operations in the years to come.
