A man who had his five-year-old child unstrapped in the front of his jeep has been ordered to pay €200 to St Vincent de Paul.
Gary Delaney of Gibbonstown, Rochfortbridge was driving the Isuzu Trooper when he was seen by Garda Fidelma Madden with the five-year-old unsecured on her mother’s knee.
The incident happened on the Lynn Road on November 19, 2009.
Ms Patricia Cronin said Delaney had gone to pick up his wife when her car broke down in the car park of the shopping centre.
He had since lost the fine that came in the post and went to the garda station to see about paying the fine but was told he couldn’t.
Ms Cronin said there is a barcode on the letter which is used in the Post Office and without the barcode, the fine couldn’t be processed.
“There are hardly two barcodes for the same offence,” said the judge, who said he would strike out the charge if the charity payment was made.
