Celebrate international Record Store Day in Mullingar

Tomorrow, Saturday April 17, e2 Music, Mullingar along with other independently owned stores will simultaneously link and act as one with the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and nationally.

Simply speaking it's an opportunity for us all to appreciate our local indie music shop and remember why we love them and need them.

On April 17, all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists and distributors to celebrate the art of music. Very special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and artists make special appearances and performances. Most Record Store Day releases are limited and some of them are super-crazy limited. You can obviously only buy these releases in the stores.

[PIAS] Ireland are very proud and excited to be releasing, amongst many other records - a 4AD compilation 12" with previously unreleased music from Blonde Redhead, Ariel Pink, Gang Gang Dance, and tUnE-YaRdS, a very tasty Mogwai/F****d Up split 10", Arthur Russell's “Calling Out Of Context” on vinyl, the wonderful Villagers single “Becoming A Jackel” on 7", Pavement's “Cut Your Hair” on 7", and Soundgarden's classic “Hunted Down” on 7" translucent orange vinyl.

The original idea for Record Store Day was conceived by Chris Brown, and was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave, and Brian Poehner as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Franscisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated on the third Saturday every April.
