Bail for man who told gardai they had ‘little to be doing’

A 21-year-old Mullingar man who told gardai in reply to a caution that they had little to be doing, was remanded on continuing bail to the local court on November 20 next.

Enda Devanney, Rathconnell, is charged with being intoxicated and using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, at Dominick Street, Mullingar, on September 15 last.

The court heard that in reply to a Garda caution regarding the intoxication charge, the defendant replied, “You've little to be doing, idiots you guards”. In reply to a caution on the breach of the peace charge he said, “You have little to do. Go after the knackers. Scumbags and pricks, you are”.

Ms Patricia Cronin, solicitor, said her client is driving a digger on the M3 road project from 7am to 7pm, and has a one hour commute. Conditions of the defendant's bail are that he maintain a curfew at his residence from 10pm to 6am, that he is barred from all licensed premises in the State, and that he lead a sober and industrious life
