A Lithuanian woman with legal aid has been severely rebuked by Judge John Neilan for not making contact with her solicitor.
Mullingar District Court heard through an interpreter that Inga Ejorova of 9 Farbill House, Athlone Road, Kinnegad that she had not been in contact with Ms Aisling Maloney since December.
Mr Louis Kiernan, who made contact with Ms Maloney who wasn’t in court, said she had ‘misdiaried’ Ms Ejorova’s appearance after he stood in for her in December.
However, Judge Neilan was insistent that it is Ms Ejorova’s obligation to visit her solicitor and he initially suspended her bail, placing her in custody.
“I’m not going to see taxpayers’ money wasted by you or anyone else,” he said.
“You’re obliged to attend at your solicitor’s office,” he added, saying “you’re not going to abuse the processes of this court”.
With the assistance of Mr Kiernan, Ms Ejorova was later released and the case was adjourned.
