An order has been issued committing a young woman to prison after she was convicted in her absence at Mullingar District Court.
Mary Kelly failed to appear at the court to answer a number of public order charges relating to an incident in Kinnegad at the end of February.
Ms Kelly, who has an address at 7 Kilbride Grove in Bray, County Wicklow was in the Westmeath town at 2am on February 28 when she and her sister entered an off-licence just as the owner and his son were tidying up.
One of them went into the men’s toilet and gardaí arrived as the women were being forcibly removed from the premises. They were told to leave the area.
However, gardaí came across them later after they had accosted a young woman on her way home.
They had asked her for hash, and when she said she had none, they threatened to burn her house down.
Gardaí found the women at the front door of a house at St Eitchin’s Court, knocking and screaming. It was not their address and they woke two elderly people living there.
They refused to leave the area and continued fighting among themselves, Sergeant William Tooher told the court.
Ms Kelly’s previous convictions for theft and public order offences were committed in Arklow, Bray, and Cork.
Judge Neilan imposed a three month sentence for threatening behaviour and the same for failing to comply with the garda’s instructions.
She was convicted on two other charges, including drunkenness but no further order was made. A warrant for her committal to prison was issued.
