Westmeath gives President triple welcome

Hundreds of well-wishers turned out to welcome President Mary McAleese when she took in three different locations during her visit to the county on Tuesday this week.

First stop for the President, who was accompanied by her husband Dr Martin McAleesse, was St Joseph’s Secondary School Rochfortbridge, where she met with past and present students and staff to mark the 60th anniversary of the school’s foundation.

The President then made her way to Killucan to carry out the official opening of the Killucan Community Childcare Service. After touring the facility, during which local children performed party pieces prepared for the occasion, the President met with the board of the centre and community representatives. She also unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion and planted a fruit tree on the grounds.

President McAleese completed her Westmeath visit with a trip to Delvin, where she officially opened St Patrick’s Community Hall.
