Visitor restrictions remain at Mullingar hospital

Strict visitor restrictions continue at the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar due to the ongoing incidence of patients with the Winter Vomiting Bug (Noro-Virus ).

The HSE is asking people to continue to adhere to the visiting restrictions. Only one visitor per patient is allowed at the designated visiting times. Visiting times are from 2-4pm and 6.30-8.30pm, except for maternity which only allows visiting from 6.30-8.30pm. No visiting is permitted outside these designated hours. Strictly no children are allowed to visit until further notice. Relatives of critically ill patients should contact the ward manager regarding visiting times.

While the outpatients department and the emergency department are not affected, patients are asked to refrain from attending the hospital if they have been affected by vomiting and/or diarrhoea in the last 72 hours.

Visitors are also advised that they must use the alcohol gel supplied as they enter and leave the hospital. Infection control procedures are in place and will remain in place until further notice.

If you or a member of your household has experienced nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhoea within the last 48 hours please do not visit the hospital as you risk spreading the virus to sick, vulnerable patients, some of whom are on treatment for serious illnesses.

The HSE is recommending that members of the public who are experiencing these symptoms first phone their local GP before presenting at the local practice.

If you are due for admission and have any of the symptoms, or any of your family has same, please inform the hospital prior to your admission date.

The HSE thanks the public for their cooperation
