Co Westmeath VEC Adult Education Service organised a number of events throughout the county recently to mark the Aontas Adult Learners Festival.
The festival kicked off with an open day in the Further Education Centre, Kilbeggan, which offered an opportunity for people to look around the centre, while students provided demonstrations in woodwork, IT, art, and cooking.
The Adult Education Centre, Athlone also hosted a ‘Bring a Friend Day’, when students from South Westmeath Adult Learning Programmes brought a friend who sat in on specially provided cooking and horticulture classes. A VTOS information desk was set up for those keen to join next year.
The festival also saw the launch of the Co Westmeath VEC Adult Education Service annual report, and a coffee morning for Haiti in the Adult Education Centre, Mullingar. The coffee morning was a massive hit, with support from all the organisations in the business park as well as the students and staff. A total of €575.55 was raised for Haiti. Local CE Schemes also displayed their mosaic art.

The festival closed with the FETAC Level 1 award ceremony. Fifteen participants from South Westmeath Adult Learning Programmes received full FETAC Level 1 awards. They were the first in the county to receive such an award. FETAC was represented by Donal Griffin, and the awards were presented to the learners by special guest Pascal Brennan.
During the festival Co Westmeath VEC Adult Education Service launched its cinema advertisement in Athlone and Mullingar cinemas.
