Athlone town councillor Aengus O’Rourke has warmly welcomed the recent announcement by Minister Michael Finneran regarding the allocation of €100m to improve or extend the homes of older people and people with disabilities.
“This money is going to older people and people with disabilities who need to have their private homes adapted in order to help with their mobility within the walls of their own home. This scheme, The Housing Adaptation Grant for Older People and People with a Disability, serves a very important function; it enables these people to continue living in their own homes and communities with the comfort and dignity that they deserve,” he said.
“The allocation for Westmeath is in the region of €2m so it will be up to Athlone to fight for its piece of the pie.”
