The CEO of a Mullingar-based digital company has called on the Government to invest in the digital economy, saying it is crucial to build on digital infrastructure in order to secure a successful economic future
Speaking at the Satellite Broadband Ireland Digital Media Awards 2010, CEO of Mullingar company Satellite Broadband Ireland, Kevin Ryan, said; “The digital economy underpins the future of our country and our competitiveness. Now is the time to create this vision and turn it into a reality. As a small country we need to continue to foster enterprising initiatives and innovation, and encourage creativity in the digital space for social and economic benefits. However we must take this foresight now and invest in this sector in order for it to grow.
“The Government has stated that the Ireland of the future will be led by an economy that ‘thinks smart and works smart’; however for that to happen, the Government needs to focus on this sector and encourage its development through funding and other support mechanisms,” he added.
“We must also promote ourselves abroad as innovators in the field. As we have seen at the Satellite Broadband Ireland Digital Media Awards, we have the talent and the knowhow; we now need infrastructure and government commitment to move our industry forward.”
The future pioneers of this digital agenda were showcased as representatives of the digital world gathered at the Digital Media Awards, sponsored by Mullingar company Satellite Broadband Ireland, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin.
Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan, attended the awards which recognised the most stylish, creative, and innovative work within the digital media industry in Ireland. A panel of 22 of the most influential figures in the digital sphere judged the awards.
The Irish digital media sector gave their full backing to Minister Ryan’s plans to put Ireland’s digital media industry at the forefront of the global digital revolution and urged him in this vision for the future of this sector in Ireland.
