Fine for frying pan chase

A man who chased his brother down the street with a frying pan has been fined €600 under the Public Order Act.

Paul McEntee of 62 Ardleigh Park, Mullingar was seen by gardaí on the Old Longford Road just before 1am on January 2 this year, Mullingar District Court heard.

They were responding to reports of a dispute involving two males, when they saw two men running onto the Green Road.

Paul McEntee was in pursuit of his brother Andrew and was wielding what Inspector Kieran Keyes described as “a large cooking pan” and was shouting in an aggressive manner.

Mr Louis Kiernan said his client was not proud of his behaviour which was the result of a row between the brothers which had started indoors but moved onto the street.

The 20-year-old has previous convictions for public order offences but his solicitor said he would not be before the court again.

Advising him that he is “sailing close to the wind” as a result of his convictions, Judge John Neilan imposed a fine of €600 for threatening behaviour and took a charge of drunkenness into consideration.

His brother Andrew (18 ) of 84 Newtown Lawns in Mullingar pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and possession of cannabis and had his case adjourned to May 6 for a probation report.
