Foul play ruled out in Mullingar death

Mullingar was reeling on Monday morning when news broke that a body had been found in suspicious circumstances at Grove Street.

However, what began as a Garda investigation has since been described as a personal tragedy.

The body of Anthony Kelly was discovered shortly after 7.30am on Monday and the scene was quickly cordoned off by gardaí to allow forensic investigation of the area.

The 31-year-old, who is originally from Strabane, in Tyrone, was found in the communal hallway outside his apartment in Grove Court, a gated complex on Grove Street.

He had been living and working in Mullingar for a number of years.

While initial indications were that Mr Kelly had died violently, this is now known not to be the case. He appeared to have suffered a number of injuries.

Gardaí ended their investigation of the scene after a preliminary examination by State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy.

The cause of death will not be known until after an inquest. However, results of a post mortem on Tuesday morning led Gardaí to announce they were no longer looking for anyone in connection with the tragic death.
