Teenage girl assaults father - court hears

A teenager has appeared before Mullingar District Court charged with assaulting her father and causing criminal damage in her home.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons spent a week at a detention centre following her arrest and was then taken before Judge John Lindsay in Mullingar where she was granted bail under strict conditions.

The court heard that tensions were high in the home but that her family were anxious that she return.

She had been in the care of the HSE over a year ago but at a recent court sitting, Judge John Neilan requested an assessment of the 17-year-old.

He was concerned about possible “background influences” solicitor John Quinn told the court, and said her family would arrange to have the family counselling recommended in the report.

The girl was released on bail but is obliged to live at home and observe a curfew there between 10.30pm and 9am and she is obliged to attend any medical or other appointments organised for her.

She is also not to own or use a mobile phone without the consent of her parents until she is 18.
