Mullingar company judges and sponsors LAMA Awards

Sponsored by Mullingar-based company Satellite Broadband Ireland, this year’s Zurich LAMA (Local Authority Members Association ) Awards acknowledged the very best of Ireland’s talent in local projects of construction, engineering, and infrastructure.

Held in the Burlington Hotel recently, the Zurich LAMA Awards, now in their fourth year, saw representatives of Government, local authorities, construction, and the corporate business community attend to show their support to the many finalists.

Kevin Ryan, CEO of local sponsor Satellite Broadband Ireland said “At Satellite Broadband Ireland we were delighted to be able to be a category sponsor at the Local Authority Members Association and to be part of judging these awards. Last year was a challenging year for all in the industry, with both economic and weather challenges for the local authorities, and this event is great in recognising all the hard work that takes place within the sector. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners.”

Having revamped and revised this year’s categories to better reflect climate conditions, and further support its nominees, the Zurich LAMA Awards provided a positive opportunity to commend individuals, initiatives, and projects of benefit to the community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Michael Finneran, TD, Minister for Housing and Local Services said, “Tonight’s nominated projects pay tribute to local authorities, individuals, and private sector organisations whose work contributes to the quality of life of our local communities. I’m especially pleased to see that the achievements of both local government and the business community have been recognised. This reflects the reality on the ground where the public and private sectors work successfully together to yield real benefits to local communities.”

The Dublin region was the biggest winner on the night, scooping six prestigious Zurich LAMA Awards. However the capital wasn’t the only big winner on the night being closely followed by Cork and Galway, who each won three Zurich LAMA Awards. Local projects acclaimed in the Galway region included Cuil na Canalach for best private housing development, Arus Cois Fharraige for best private nursing home, and NUIG Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre for best not publically funded sporting facility.

Chairman of the LAMA Association, Cllr Hugh Mc Elvaney, said “We are delighted to highlight and recognise excellence in construction at local, county and national level”.
