Shopping centre brawl sees man fined

A Delvin man who lunged into a man he was in dispute with at a shopping centre has been fined €150.

Darren Jones of Lakefield, Clonagapple was seen on CCTV at the Harbour Place Shopping Centre launch into Simon Quinn and assault him by kicking and punching him, Inspector Kieran Keyes told Mullingar District Court.

The row continued until security staff intervened and Gardaí were called.

Mr Robert Marren said that a number of issues had been unresolved between his 21-year-old client and the man he attacked.

Their paths crossed accidentally in the shopping centre and words were exchanged.

His client “saw red” but he described the incident as more like “wrestling and falling” than anything more serious.

No one had been injured, he said and pointed out that the unemployed father of one had been upfront in his statement and was fully cooperative.

Noting that Mr Jones’s way of resolving his differences had “public repercussions”, he was fined €150.
