Man allegedly assaulted another with claw hammer

A Mullingar man who is alleged to have assaulted another man with a stolen claw hammer is to be sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court.

Mark Donoghue, who lives with his mother at 55 Grange Village is charged with assault causing harm to Thomas Donoghue at Patrick Street on July 4 last.

He is also charged with possession of the stolen claw hammer to carry out the assault.

The 19-year-old was arrested at Grange by Garda Michael Daniels on February 3 but had nothing to say when he was charged.

He was earlier charged with handling the stolen hammer.

Judge William Early granted legal aid due to the seriousness of the charge and remanded the case to March 11 for the book of evidence to be served on Mr Donoghue.

He is to sign on weekly and observe a curfew.
