Margaret O’Rafferty was welcomed at last week’s sitting of the District Court when Judge John Neilan wished her luck in her new role.
Describing her as “extremely competent,” he added that Ms O’Rafferty, who has previous experience in Trim and Dublin, is anxious to see the Mullingar office proceed with the same efficiency as with her predecessor Pat Kelly, who retired late last year.
“She’ll have no problem getting on with me,” said the judge. “She’s the boss now. I’ll have to listen to what she says.”
His good wishes were echoed by State solicitor Mr Peter Jones, by Mr Robert Marren on behalf of the legal profession and by the probation services.
Ms O’Rafferty said Mr Kelly would be a hard act to follow but looked forward to working with staff who are “exceptional in terms of their professionalism” and “excellent in supporting the administration of justice in the district”.
