Think green for Mullingar St Patrick’s Day

The Mullingar St Patrick’s Day parade committee are very enthusiastic about this year’s St Patrick’s Day, and have been busy coming up with exciting ideas to make this year’s parade the most successful to date.

Float entries are currently being sought for parade. Entry forms can be downloaded from the website www.mullingarparade.ie and are also available in the Greville Arms Hotel. The closing date for entries is strictly March 1.

The committee is hopeful that this year’s parade will be the biggest and best yet, and would like to encourage participants, including businesses, community groups, schools, and clubs, to be as creative and imaginative as possible when it comes to the design and construction of their floats and entries.

The theme for this year’s parade is ‘The Environment’, so think climate change, global warming, and think green green green for St Patrick’s Day in Mullingar.

In order to raise some much-needed funds there will be a church gate collection on January 30 and 31 and a collection at Tesco Mullingar on February 19 and 20.

The parade committee is once again seeking support from the local business community and would be grateful if everyone contributes as they have done in previous years. The support of local businesses and individuals is essential in ensuring that Westmeath’s county town has the best parade in the country.

As this is a community-based project, the committee would like to encourage as many people as possible to get involved and volunteer their services or time. All are welcome to attend meetings, which take place in the Greville Arms, Mullingar every Thursday at 6.15pm.
