Two year driving ban for erratic driving

A former Westmeath resident now living in Dublin, who drove at high speed when detected for a drink driving offence, was fined €750 and disqualified from driving for two years, at Mullingar Court last week.

Sharon O'Reilly, formerly of Rochfortbridge, but now residing at 30 Cliogginn Park, Ballyfermott, was convicted of the offence which occurred at Lynn Road, Mullingar, on January 5 last. Judge John Neilan fixed recognisances in the event of an appeal. A second charge of failing to appear at Mullingar Court on June 19 last was dismissed. The defendant pleaded guilty to the offences.

Inspector Jarlath Folan told the court that Sharon O'Reilly was observed driving erratically by gardai on the occasion. She was pursued by gardai and drove at high speed before she stopped and was arrested. The defendant has no previous convictions.

Mr Robert Marren, solicitor, said his client who is unemployed, apologised to the court. He added that the penalty would inconvenience her life and the lives of her children.
