Gardai in Mullingar are warning home and business owners to take extra care to ensure their premises are secure over the Christmas period, following a number of break-ins in the area in recent weeks.
Sgt Kieran Williams of Mullingar Garda Station is advising members of the public not to leave back doors or windows unlocked and to report any suspicious activity to Gardai immediately.
Last Friday, a business premises in Ballynacargy was broken into and hairstyling equipment stolen. The break-in occurred between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
Intruders were disturbed during a break-in to a private residence at Tara Lawns, Kinnegad at approximately 4.30am last Wednesday December 16. Two males escaped through a window with a sum of cash.
A sum of cash was also taken during a day-time break in at an apartment on Patrick Street, Mullingar on Tuesday December 15, between 11.15am and 2.20pm.
During the previous week, between December 7 and 12, break-ins also occurred at Great Oaks, Delvin Road, Mullingar; Heathfield, Kinnegad; and Main Street, Kinnegad. A man was arrested for both the Kinnegad incidents.
