The 2010 budget allocation to the tourism industry has been positively received by the local tourism company, Co Westmeath Tourism Ltd.
“The Tourism Services Budget for 2010 is over €155 million representing an increase of 2 per cent on 2009. This recognises the importance of the tourism sector in Ireland’s economic recovery. For a budget that will be remembered for all its cuts, the allocation for the tourism industry has actually been increased which is very positive,” commented Rhona Rogers, Westmeath tourism development officer.
“While there have been reductions in funding, significant amounts have still been allocated to the Arts Council, the Irish Film Board, Culture Ireland, and to the sports sector - all of which showcase the richness of Ireland’s heritage through art, music dance, film, sports, etc, and which has a positive spin-off for making Ireland an appealing destination for visitors,” she added.
