A Midlands man has been sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court on two counts of sexual assault.
The man, who cannot be identified to protect his alleged victim, who was 11 at the time of the offences in May this year, faces two charges under the Rape Act.
The offences occurred in Westmeath
The court heard that Garda Coonan had served the Book of Evidence on the 58-year-old and that the DPP had directed he be tried at the Circuit Court which is sitting in Tullamore in February.
Saying that the offences could earn a maximum of 14 years in jail, Mr Louis Kiernan requested both junior and senior counsel under the Legal Aid Scheme and this was granted.
