Man fined for buying stolen trailer

A Multyfarnham man has been fined €750 for buying a stolen trailer worth €1,500.

Darren Higgins had the trailer at his home at Ballindurrow on May 6 when Sgt Reilly arrived with a search warrant.

The trailer, which he said he had bought through the Buy and Sell newspaper, was seized. It belonged to a man from Ballyjamesduff in Co Cavan and had been stolen from his residence in March.

Mr Higgins had no previous convictions.

Mr Robert Marren said that in hindsight, his client should have been wiser about the price of the car trailer but was now personally at a loss of €850 which was the price he had paid for it.

Judge Neilan said that “the line between those who steal property and those who receive it is very thin”; however, Inspector Folan agreed with Mr Marren that his client was “on the foolish side of that line”.
