Festive cheer, song, and shopping for all the family

Mullingar will soon be full of Christmas spirit with festive music and song. On December 6 there will be some essential Christmas shopping ideas as the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce, the Farmers’ Market, and the Westmeath County Council organise Christmas in Mullingar 2009. This will be the first large Christmas event ever to be held in the town. The event will take place from 12 midday until 4.30pm on Sunday December 6. The town centre will be pedestrianised for the event to accommodate all of you who are looking for that extra special Christmas gift this year. The town’s retailers will be open from midday so no matter what you are looking for from high fashion to traditional crafts, Christmas in Mullingar 2009 is your one-stop shop this Christmas.

There is also a huge line-up of bands for the event which have been organised by Marty Mulligan. The Market Square will feature concerts and the choirs which will be led by the Army Pipe and Drum Band. The Pearse Street stage will feature some of Mullingar's up and coming pop and rock acts. The main stage will be at Dominick Place where you can expect appearances from top national and international acts. The Mount Street stage will consist of music, song, drama and dance from around the world. The Castle Street stage will bring you top DJs and bands playing a eclectic mix of jazz, funk, pop, and rock. A huge thank you to all of these musicians who are giving up their time free of charge for this event.

A carol service will also take place in the Market Square at 4.30pm and of course the man himself, Santa Claus, will be dropping by to see who is being naughty or nice. During the event there will be donations buckets about for the Lions Club Christmas food appeal so we would ask you to give whatever you can on the day for a very worthy cause.

Also keep your eye out for Midlands Radio 3 who will be broadcasting live from the event. Please note that Oliver Plunkett street, Mount Street, and Pearse Street will be closed from 10am until 6pm on Sunday December 6.
