Fatal crash at Dalystown

An elderly woman was killed yesterday (November 5 ) shortly after 11am, when the car in which she was travelling was involved in a two-car collision at Clonfad on the N52, just beyond the Dalystown turn, between Mullingar and Tyrrellspass.

The deceased was named locally as a Mrs Griffin, who lived in the vicinity, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in the other vehicle was removed to the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar, with what are described as serious injuries.

The road at the scene of the crash was closed for an examination of the area by forensic collision investigators.

The woman's car was engulfed in flames following the crash and emergency services from both Mullingar and Kilbeggan attended.

Traffic in the area was diverted through Kilbeggan until the road re-opened yesterday evening.
