Lisacul-based artist Vida Pain opens her solo exhibition entitled Illumination this Friday October 30, as part of Roscommon Arts Centre’s autumn/winter visual art programme.
The show is a collection of Vida’s most recent work, which focuses on the fragility of time, glimpses of the ordinary world captured momentarily by the observer. It portrays familiar and often overlooked images which provoke the senses and encourage emotional reactions to our immediate surroundings.
The work includes images of both rural and urban landscapes, with emphasis on both natural and artificial lighting. There is a deep personal connection to the ordinary everyday world, in all its banality, ugliness and beauty. The work is presented on supports such as oil on canvas, oil on board, and acrylic on fabriano paper.
Vida Pain is a graduate of the Galway Institute of Technology, where she received her BA Honours Degree in Fine Art 2009. She has exhibited widely in both group and selected shows and this year was selected for the RDS student award exhibition. Vida has also been a prizewinner at the Boyle Arts Festival 2009 and is also showing in Wexford during the Opera Festival this month.
An opening reception will be held on Friday October 30 from 6.30pm to 8pm, during which time members of the public are invited to drop in, view the work, and meet the artist. The exhibition continues until Friday November 13 and can be viewed during normal box office hours.
