Judge John Neilan said there is “nothing but a constant nightmare” flowing from the home of a Mullingar man whom he convicted of public order offences.
Joseph Byrne, who currently has an address at 7 Inish Glóir, Ballinalack was fined €250 for public intoxication and €500 for threatening behaviour relating to a dispute in Mullingar’s Market Square on November 29 last year.
The court heard how Gardaí received a call about the dispute which involved Mr Byrne, his wife and her ex-partner.
The two men were fighting each other and Ms Mary Lawrence was also pushing and verbally abusing one of them.
Mr Byrne was punching and shouting and highly intoxicated, Superintendent John Gantly explained.
Mr Louis Kiernan said that the relationship between Ms Lawrence’s current and former partner is usually not difficult but there had been “an emotional background to the whole thing”.
Mr Byrne is still attending aftercare at Cuan Mhuire where he attended a 12 week course to deal with his alcohol problem.
The judge imposed the fines, noting that “at all times Mr Byrne has had ample funds for alcohol”.
