Fancy dress Hallowe’en youth disco in the Bounty

The Buccaneers Rugby Football Club are very grateful to the Athlone Drug Awareness Group and Athlone Gardai for officially backing them in providing alcohol free youth discos in the Bounty.

This Hallowe’en this three-way partnership is taking an innovative approach in running a fancy dress youth disco on Thursday October 29. There will be prizes for the best dress male and female and also a range of other spot prizes during the night.

Cllr Frankie Keena, chairman of the Athlone Drug Awareness Group said that this is their tenth year in running these discos and the feedback from parents, schools, and teenagers is very positive. “This gives us the incentive and the willpower to keep going,” he said. “It is a big concern for any parent when their child heads off to their first disco and I am glad to say that these concerns are mostly alleviated by the strict supervision provided on the nights and also the permanent presence of the Gardai during the discos is a major help,” he added.

Barry Reid from the Buccanneers RFC said that the club is delighted to be providing a much-needed service for the young people of the town and surrounding areas. “We get great satisfaction when parents and teenagers contact us afterwards to say thanks,” he said.

“It’s amazing in that some of the teenagers that attended our first discos here are now helping out with supervision and other chores during the nights,” he added.

Tickets are on sale from Musicworld, Golden Island Shopping Centre.
