Rochfortbridge Community Hall was officially opened on Wednesday September 30 by Cllr Fintan Cooney, chairman of Westmeath County Council, and blessed by His Excellency Rev Michael Smith, Bishop of Meath, at a ceremony organised by the hall committee and attended by local community groups, public representatives, and officials.
Westmeath County Council is delighted that this worthwhile project was delivered on time and within budget. The facility will greatly improve the social infrastructure of the locality and will be of great benefit to all community groups.
The proposal for this project was initiated and developed in consultation with the local development group and the parish hall committee, and the total cost of the project was in the region of €400,000.
A grant of €300,000 for the refurbishment of the hall was obtained by Westmeath County Council from the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government under the Social and Community Facilities Scheme 2006, while over €100,000 was raised locally by a hard working committee.
The project was designed by John Madden & Associates, Mullingar, and works carried out by Cloneden Construction, Clonbullogue, Edenderry, Co Offaly.
