Three held over spate of burglaries

Three men have been arrested and are being held in connection with a spate of burglaries across the Midlands.

The men, all in their 20s, were arrested on Wednesday morning this week at locations in Wicklow town and Dublin. One of the men was brought to Athlone Garda Station, while the other two were brought to Tullamore Garda Station.

The men were questioned by Gardai in relation to the spate of burglaries, which were carried out in Westmeath, Longford, Offaly, and Tipperary over the past six weeks.

At time of going to press, all three men were still being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Meanwhile, local Gardai reported a number of burglaries in the Mullingar area this week.

Two break-ins took place overnight on Monday September 28. A small amount of cash, 15 red Victorinox pen-knives, and a quantity of Zippo lighters were stolen from a business premises in Austin Friars Street, after the rear door of the premises was forced. Anyone who is offered any of the above items for sale is asked to contact Gardai.

Also on Monday night, a business premises on the Old Longford Road, Mullingar was broken into and a quantity of various tools, including a power washer, taken.

A car was broken into at Ballyglas Cemetery on Monday at approximately 6pm, and credit cards and a quantity of cash were stolen.

Also on Monday this week, a cattle trailer was stolen from a yard in Cregganstown, Killucan.
