Family parachute jump for cystic fibrosis

It may be argued the bravest and maddest family in Ireland is from Mullingar, with the news this week that 11 of the Mulvany clan from Clonmore are to jump out of a perfectly functional aircraft in aid of cystic fibrosis.

The jump is to take place at the home of the Irish parachute club in Clonbullogue, Co Offaly on October 18 and is just one of a trio of fund-raising events being held over the next month for this worthy cause.

There will also be a quiz night in Columb Barracks in Mullingar on October 9, and a benefit night in The Greville Arms Hotel on November 6.

The parachute jump is the brain-child of Chris Mulvany (32 ) from Raithin, and he is to be acccompanied in his Newton-defying endeavour by 10 other family members.

“I am currently organising a parachute jump and other fund-raiser events to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI ),” said Chris this week (September 29 ).

“I am a 32-year-old Mullingar-born person with cystic fibrosis and over the years I have seen the great work that the CFAI provide for people with this disease in Ireland and have obviously been in close contact with the medical teams who strive to make life a little easier for people with cystic fibrosis.

“To this end I have organised a parachute jump with 10 other family members.”
