A Mullingar woman has pleaded guilty to abusive behaviour at Ardlea Park earlier this month.
When Teresa Downes of Ballycommon, Mullingar was charged, her response was, “I wasn’t abusive towards you”.
Mullingar District Court heard how gardaí on patrol were called to a house at Ardlea Park at 4am on September 13 where Ms Downes was upset and alleged she had been assaulted.
Although gardaí pointed out that they had arrived to assist her, she became very insulting and started shouting.
She refused to calm down and remained aggressive when removed to Mullingar Garda Station.
Ms Vicky McCarthy gave the court a confidential medical report on behalf of her client and pointed out that she had “serious difficulties”.
She said Ms Downes had been out with friends and had consumed only a small amount of alcohol because she was on medication.
When she arrived home to her then rented accommodation at Ardlea with friends, a group of people assaulted her before her friends got her safely into the house.
Cautioning her on her use of alcohol while taking medication, Judge Neilan adjourned the case until December.
He reminded Ms Downes that he would not tolerate “a verbal torrent of abuse or insults” to gardaí while they are assisting people.
