€1m drugs Minister visits Mullingar

The Minister who oversaw the allocation of €0.9m to the Midand Reginal Drugs Task Force (MRDTF ) this year, met with representatives earlier this week (September 30 ) in Mullingar.

“I think it’s really important to meet with task force representatives as regularly as possible – it is encouraging to see the amount of work being carried out on the ground across the Midlands,” said the progressive Minister John Curran.

“I am delighted that my Department continues to support the task force. This year I have allocated approximately €900,000 to implement a range of programmes covering family support, education, youth programmes, and harm reduction.”

In May, the Minister formally launched the MRDTF’s Dial-to-Stop Drug Dealing campaigns in the main towns across the Midlands.

“The Midlands campaign has been a success and I congratulate all involved in the campaign. The overall campaign was originally due to cease operation this month but due to the positive outcomes achieved I have decided to extend the campaign.

“The initiative, which has received continued support from An Garda Síochána will be supported with additional funding from my Department.”

He continued; “The initiative has proven its worth and merits the praise it has received. The information received has led to seizures and will ultimately lead to prosecutions. It has also corroborated existing intelligence with regard to individuals and organised criminal networks.”

The Dial-to-Stop number is 1800 220220.
