18 jobs to go in Kilbeggan

Another raft of Westmeath jobs were lost this week with the announcement of 18 redundancies at a concrete firm in Kilbeggan..

John Gannon and Sons announced yesterday (September 17 ) that it has gone into voluntary liquidation after 30 years in operation at its site on the Mullingar Road, just beyond the racecourse.

Staff were informed of the closure yesterday and were told they are entitled to claim redundancy.

“It is very much a shock and a big loss to the community. What else can be said?” said local councillor, Ger Corcoran, on Thursday.

“We heard rumours yesterday and hoped it wasn’t true.

“This will have an obvious knock-on effect on the town. It’s most unfortunate”.

Gannons were unable to comment at time of going to press.
