Custume Barracks will host its annual family open day on Sunday September 13.
The event will commence with a military parade from Golden Island shopping centre at 12.30pm. The parade will enter Custume Barracks at 1pm when the barracks will be open to the public to visit and see a large number of displays. Most popular of these will be the spectacular Defence Forces Parachute team who will land in the Barracks. Also on display will be an Aer Corps helicopter. This proved hugely popular last year. There will be an extensive display of military equipment as used by the defence Forces both at home and on overseas duty in countries such as Chad and Kosovo.
Other attractions for children will include face painting, bouncy castle and an assault course to name a few. Hot food will be available to purchase on the day.
The event will raise funds for Dochas, the Irish Guide Dogs Association, and the Defence Forces Benevolent Fund. The open day will end at 6pm. All are welcome, admission is free, and donations for the charities are gladly accepted. For more information contact (090 ) 6421195.
