Mullingar Chamber is to host a briefing session next week to inform local businesses of the results of its recent research into the local business environment.
Due to its concern at the number of business closures and loss of employment among Chamber members on the streets of Mullingar, the Chamber decided to compile research in relation to the local business environment.
Chamber personnel examined closures, job losses, shopping in Mullingar, shopping centres, shopping competition, and the general cost of doing business in the town. They also looked at consumer attitudes locally to spending and also their opinions on local retail outlets.
This research, the first of its kind, is the culmination of weeks of work by the Chamber and makes for very interesting reading.
A number of positives have emerged from the research. Some 62 per cent of respondents said that they did not shop in the North, with 20 per cent of these saying they would prefer to shop local and support the local economy and a further 36 per cent stating that it was too much hassle to travel to the North.
A full briefing of the research will be made to the public next Monday September 7 at 8pm in the Annebrook House Hotel.
The Chamber would encourage all local businesses and interested parties to come along to what is hoped will be a very interesting briefing.
