Improvements to Athlone roads gets go-ahead

Athlone Town Councillor Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran has said this week that improvements to roads in estates in the town will be made in the coming weeks and months.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Cllr Moran confirmed that work on the right turning lanes at Mayfield Grove and The Orchard would be completed by next Friday. “ There is a major issue of safety in these estates. The road markings will be in place by next Friday,” said Cllr Moran.

“I would like to pay tribute the director of services Barry Keogh, and the town engineer for all their hard work.”

The new traffic light system at Cloghanboy on the Ballymahon Road is also in the development stages and it is hoped this will be completed early next year. “The traffic lights at Cloghanboy should be up and running by March next year,” said Cllr Moran. “The same goes for the traffic lights promised at Creggan. They have been a long time promised. The designs have been done up and the council is committed to following through on this. They should be in place by the end of the year.”
