It’s not often a new Irish band is all but pursued by a much-in-demand world-class producer but that is exactly what happened when Los Angeles-based Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac, My Chemical Romance, Metrostation, Iglu and Hartly ) heard about Keywest. After flying to London to meet with the band, the seeds were sown for Keywest’s debut album.
“Keywest are my top pick for 2009 as a band to watch. They have great melodies and lyrics which is always a winning combination,” Mark Needham has said.
The Dublin-based band are made up of lead singer Andy Kavanagh, with Andrew Glover on piano/guitar, Gary Grant on drums, Neil Partridge on bass, and Carlos Checa on lead guitar. They have industry executives everywhere talking and with significant label interest on both sides of the Atlantic, 2009 looks like being an exciting year. Reviews have been ecstatic about the band and their potential for international success.
The first song of the album, ‘Miss You Most’, went straight into the charts at number 6 and enjoyed some success when it was snapped up by the producers of the IFTA nominated series, Aisling’s Diaries. It also received acclaim in the US with one of America’s top music sites, crazedhits.com, featuring it on their A List.
Keywest’s sound can be best described as LA rock/pop. It is a sound infused by the melting pot of raw talent that comes from each member of the band. With a powerful live show, it is no surprise that the band have sold out venues such as Dublin’s Academy, The Sugar Club, and Crawdaddy.
Their sound has also brought them to the attention of national radio and TV with performances on The Late Late Show, TTV, and The Tubridy show as well as several regional radio appearances.
Keywest will play Mullingar Arts Centre on Sunday August 2. Tickets are available from the box office at (044 ) 9347777.
